Stop Guessing and Start Strategizing

The Importance of Developing a Social Media Strategy for your Business

Let me guess. You think social media can’t be a driving force for your business? Well, think again. Social Media, if done right, can create profitable website conversions. But before you start posting selfies and pictures of newborns, you need to step back and think about your goals. The purpose behind sharing on social media. You need to develop a strategy.

Debunking Social Media Myths

If you’re questioning the importance of a Social Media Strategy, then it probably means your current approach isn’t working for you. Whether it’s because you’re not seeing the conversions or you just aren’t using social media to promote your company, you need to do something to help your business grow.

If you’re a little gun shy when it comes to social media or not quite sure what to do, let’s start off by debunking some very common social media myths.

1. A monkey can do it

No. It actually takes quite a bit of time and effort to do this right. You can’t just hand it over to the newbie, tell them to share a post or two and call it a day. You’ve got to research, plan and engage.

2. You can’t make any money with social media

Ehh. Wrong. What’s everyone doing these days? Using social media. They have their smartphones crammed in their face 24/7 and waiting for next big thing to cross their path. It’s your job to make it happen.

3. Only Taylor Swift loving teeny boppers are on social media

Again, wrong. These days everyone has a computer of some sort – and using social media. Even our “Memaws” are on Pinterest looking for the next crafting craze and posting selfies – oh so awkward selfies.

4. You can post anything you want

Think again. Too many times companies post what they find interesting and not what their audience wants to see. That doesn’t drive people to want to check out your business. You have to seduce them.

5. You can just sign up for every social media account and start posting

Nope. If you’re trying to promote your business, you need to have an approach. Something that you can evaluate, measure and refine.

The Importance of a Social Media Strategy

“Leaders establish the vision for the future and set the strategy for getting there.” – John P. Kotter

So why all the hype when it comes to a social strategy? Simple. It provides you with an outline and approach. It will help develop a social presence, brand awareness and web conversions for your company.

Determine what you’re approach is going to be – and why. If you don’t define your goals, you can’t be successful. Remember it’s going to take time. What’s the old saying? “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Well, it’s cliché for a reason. If you’re building an empire, you have to do your work.

Understand your audience – who’s purchasing your services/product. If you don’t know you’re demographic, then you have bigger problems than not utilizing social media. This is part of the basic foundation for every successful business.

Schedule time to post, share and chat. It has to happen every day – and more than once. If people ask questions, respond. You’re networking which means you need to be social.

There’s plenty you’ll need to know when developing your social strategy. Do your work. Get in there and get your hands dirty. And start seeing conversions.
